Urgent: Save Our New Zealand Assets Campaign Needs Donations. 21 August, 2012.
How To Prevent John Key’s National Government From Selling Our Public Assets: The current prime minister’s plan to sell off our New Zealand public assets CAN BE STOPPED. The Greens, combined with the Labour Party have a campaign running which will do the trick and prevent the sale of state-owned assets, but time is running out.
We are well on the way with getting those signatures onto the petition, but a little more ‘push’ is needed to make this campaign successful. More money, and more signatures are needed. If the numbers are reached in time, then assets will not be sold. 310,000 signatures are required before the end of September, 2012. At a guess, I think that they will be getting close to this figure now as I update this post, 30th August, 2012. But help the cause along by putting your signature to the petition, if you haven’t done so already.
Sign the Petition against selling our assets.
Donate if you can.
The petition to stop asset sales so far has half the signatures that it needs in order to stop the first scheduled asset sale. The signatures must be collected by the end of September, which isn’t that far away. Funds are needed to cover the cost of printing more pamphlets, and various other advertising.
If you support keeping our assets, and do not want them sold, then it is important that you donate to the Greens’ campaign to stop assets being sold.
Only 17% of the population agree with asset sales, according to a TV3 poll taken recently. So logically speaking, there should be another 83% of people out there, ready to sign the petition to stop asset sales, and willing to donate a little something towards this campaign.
I have just received an email from Russel Norman, which explains how the campaign is going, and why funds are needed.
Donate if you can. Go to Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand and click on the little orange icon at bottom right, which says: “Keep Our Assets”.
This will give you the opportunity to put money straight into the heart of the campaign to save our NZ Assets.
Russel Norman, co-leader of the Greens Party of Aotearoa New Zealand, says in his email sent out today, 21st August, 2012:
Kia ora Merrilyn
A huge thank you to everybody who has signed and collected signatures for the Keep Our Assets petition, which is now reaching its crucial concluding stages. Together we are calling for a Citizens Initiated Referendum on National’s privatisation plan before any of our state-owned energy companies or Air New Zealand are sold.
This campaign must succeed if we are to keep New Zealand assets in public hands. The evidence is clear: the needless loss of the 18.5% shareholder return on our state owned companies will only leave New Zealand more indebted in the long run.
The great news is that more than 215,000 people have now signed the petition, bringing us more than halfway to our goal.
The Green Party has collected 118,000 of these signatures, and we are committed to getting 52,000 more by the end of September in a final push to stop the first asset sale. Only then can we go beyond collecting signatures and actually stop this from going ahead.
But to do this we need your help.
As you know, campaigns like this require people, printing, postage and materials. And we need more to keep us going.
Please make a donation of $25, $100 or whatever you can afford to help ensure we can keep the pressure on.
